Glacier Cloud Spirits
Hiking at Lake Louise Alberta I first saw what a powerful presence an icefield can exude. A central icefield here takes on a shape suggesting it has a spirit of its own. Smoothed gravel slopes sweep down the mountain peak with symphonic power, echoes of the central ice spirit. Grand shapes like massive chords of color surround the glacial form in a bold composition. Clouds overhead seem to pick up on the energy of the icefield presence and carry it up into the air.

“Gradually, very gradually, we saw the great mountain sides and glaciers and aretes, now one fragment and now another through the floating rifts, until far higher in the sky than imagination had dared to suggest the white summit of Everest appeared.”George Mallory
