Mountain Dusk Sonata #1
I tried to build bold, surging rhythms of form and color through this early evening mountainscape. It’s something of a visual sonata, which is a three part composition in music, and here the three sections are cloud, snow peaks and valley. All elements of nature echo with similar variations of form. Dark, streaking clouds rush overhead, as the late glow of sunlight washes across rounded peaks, leaving deep shadowed passages that resonate with the sky. The third and bottom movement mirrors the clouds, but spreads across the darkening valley and ridges below.
